IT IS “A NEW THING A DAY” MONTH FOR DAWN

•July 2, 2010 • Leave a Comment

WEEK ONE

I did something new and different for me on July 1st…and I liked it. So, I decided to continue to do new things all the month! I hope to do them daily, but realistically I may not get ‘er done, BUT be assured I WILL be doing several new things a week! So come back often all the month of July for Dawn’s “New Thing A Day” Adventure!

JULY 1st:
I went to a casting call for a low budget short film! Why? Why Not? Maybe I was on pain killer when I decided to do this, but did not back out when when the meds wore off! It was nerve racking, but even if I do not get a part, I know I am an Oscar winner! They had NO idea I was in complete and horrid back pain. Why? Because I acted my heart out to hide it! Yeah for me!

My Head Shot

JULY 2nd:
Since my back is out, I was thinking of what I could do from the computer…and last night I told Jim I was going to a Porn Site today. Come back to see if I did! Wooo Hooooo!

Okay, so I did not go to a porn site on the 2nd! I did do several new things, like trying a new flavor of Ben & Jerry’s and one even without chocolate (since B & J’s is from Vermont…there are even more crazy flavors here then where you are I am sure)! We also went to 2 new places, Jamaica and Manchester, unfortunately one was not in the Caribbean and the other was not in England, both in lovely little Vermont! But those 3 aside, I will tell more about the one that was more uncomfortable for me to do, being that is my goal with this month of doing new things.

I found and made reservations at a Resort in the town of Manchester, VT. Why is that so uncomfortable? Well, I am a person that is uncomfortable spending money on bigger purchases, much less for over priced hotels that call themselves resorts. Usually you are not in your room for too long, so why pay a lot? So, I broke down and did it since our Boston plans for the holiday weekend were ruined by my thrown out back. Well, okay, I cheated a little. I found one I like, Palmer House Resort, and talked the reservation clerk down to a reasonable amount (I am sure we did not get a top room either but that is okay), and the place is more like a Resortel. Beautiful grounds, great activity options, wonderful service, large nice room, and all in a pretty little mountain town. But laid out in the motel format where rooms face parking spots, except the parking spots at this Resortel faced the wonderful
grounds!

THE RESORTEL

From The Resortel!

JULY 3rd:
On this day I went way out of my comfort zone, my hurt back comfort zone that is. I got a massage. I was very worried he would whack my back out even more, but he was a miracle worker. Although my back still hurts, I can now stand up straight again! And I hardly ever get massages because that would mean spending money on bigger ticket items, but hit pay dirt when I found the number for this one massage therapist. He works at the expensive place where I was going to get a massage, but he also has his own place and got the same massage for $50.00 less!

JULY 4TH:
Come back soon to hear about what this crazy girl did for her new thing on the nation’s celebration day of Independence!

Okay, I did not do anything outside of my comfort zone, but I was a bit apprehensive about going to the July 4th Firework Viewing party that we were invited to attend. I know, me apprehensive about going to a party? Unheard of! But hear me out. First, I knew there would be no dancing on top of at this particular party. Then, not even a minute in the door of the 8000 square foot home on the 15 acre estate were my worries founded. The gracious host introduced us around and I talk to couple dressed in the most conservative summer outfits we had ever seen, yellow shorts on a 50 something man, really? It worked for him, what did not work for me was his partner’s over use of the words affluent and equine. Yes, calling your horse farm an equine farm sounds affluent, but you are living in Vermont Dears, bring it down a notch.

JIM’S FIRST TRY AT GOLF EVER

From Our 2010 4th of July!

Okay, I keed, said couple were conservative and probably have more money in their furnished living room of their 1970’s home than I will see all my life, but they were also very fun. You can take a New Yorker out of New York, but you can’t take the New Yorker out of an affluent equine farmer in Vermont! I hope to be able to experience them again, their home and their farm in the near future, that is, if they do not read my blog! I do believe they think us traveling commoners are entertainment as well!

JULY 5TH:
Both Jim and I did not use our 5th to the wisest. We talked to our landlord, well, the wife of the landlord couple, and did not tell her we were moving out next week. It was just too uncomfortable. It would just have been rude to do so as she is going through a really hard time right now and just needed support at the time, not more bad news. Jim promised to do it as soon as we got back from Manchester on the 4th, but it is now the 6th and still has not done it. I just can’t. I better remind him to do it right now. Yikes. Some thing are really just TOO uncomfortable to do!

Newfane, VT

From Our 2010 4th of July!

JULY 6TH:
Okay, although I talked about it with one Kitty McFar, I did not come up with a “New Thing To Do” today, but did come up with two new ideas. 1) Make a list of new and uncomfortable things for me to do this month. And 2) Next Month, August, will be “Write At Least a Sentence A Day Towards Finishing My Book” Day!

From Our 2010 4th of July!

JULY 7TH: This one will be over the top! I will have the car and the sky is the limit! Come back soon to see what New and Uncomfortable thing I actually did!

Okay, not over the top…but something new and a bit questionable!  I thought I was just getting a massage and I got my chakra read as well.  Apparently my 2nd chakra is broken.  Not sure if that is worse or better than having a “broken drink!”

SORRY CASPER, OUR FRIENDLY GHOST’S NAME IS ELY!

•July 2, 2010 • 3 Comments

Casper the Friendly Ghost was one of my favorite cartoons, but I never knew we would have a friendly ghost all to ourselves!

Yes we are believers! I have always kind of have been, but realized Jim was too, when he would get into watching the ghost hunter shows with me. Well, since moving to the Culbertson House in Brattleboro, Vermont, we are now not only believers, we have experienced the antics of our ghost, Ely.

Ely Culbertson was a famous Bridge player and man about town in his day. He developed a new version of Bridge, called Contract Bridge  He even has a card shuffling device named after him.   He was also a philosopher and author.  He wrote an autobiography, The Strange Lives of One Man , as well as a plethora of other books including ones on philosophy.

He was born July 22, 1891 in Romania, and died December 27, 1955 in the house we now call home,Culbertson House. He is also buried only 1/4 mile away. Ely had a lung condition and ended up dying from a common cold. Or did he die because he smoked even though he had a lung condition? Or is he just smoking in the after life because, now, it can’t kill him? We smell cigarette smoke in our place at random times, when no other people are on the property.

The Culbertson House

From Jim and Dawn’s Hike in Their Woods

For the whole time we have been here it has been all ghost quiet besides the cigarette smoke here and there, and then one week, the week of June 13th to be exact, things got whacky. And it was not even a Friday the 13th, or the day Ely was born, nor the day he died either. We are not sure what instigated it all, but Ely and maybe a ghost friend or two, got a lot more active.

I have never been afraid of being in this studio, even with it being out in the woods, but during this week I had constant creepies behind my back. Just being here gave me the willies, never mind the electricity going in and out only in our unit, the shuffling noise on the floor, the humming, and even a black figure with a hat beside the bed. It was not a great week for Jim and I either, the air was negative and it was working on us.

Nothing more, nothing less…but creepy…yes. Things have gone back to normal, the negative air is almost all gone, the fear of being here has left, but there is still a noise or hum every so often. We are okay with that. We just tell Ely it is time to move on and it is okay for him to leave.

And I will leave you now with some words of wisdom from Ely Culbertson.

“A deck of cards is built like the purest of hierarchies, with every card a master to those below it, a lackey to those above it.”

“God and the politicians willing, the United States can declare peace upon the world, and win it.”

“The bizarre world of cards is a world of pure power politics where rewards and punishments are meted out immediately.”

ROAMIN’ GNOMES CROSSROADS

•July 2, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Is it possible that it is hard to be a Roamin’ Gnome?

It is not hard…but every gnome wants its own yard to hang out in and to call home!

Even that Travelocity gnome wants it. I know this. I know this because…my gnome met his momma gnome and she said, “I am so happy for his success, but he is not happy traveling the gnome globe all the time.” With tears in her eyes she added, “Come home to Momma Gnome, my travelin’ the globe gnome!”

I am right there with you my brotha’ roamin’ gnome. It is nice to have at least our little studio for two months, but “home” it is not, even with a gnome in the garden and another on the hearth.

Poor Packed-Away-in-a-Storage-Unit Skibbleshanks Gnome:

From Day After Dawn & Jim’s Wedding Brunch

After a visit from the Rogans, recovering Roamin’ Gnomes themselves. Okay, the Rogans are not gnomers, but they were roamers from 2003 – 2007. You can take the roaming away from the gnome, but you can’t take away the gnome’s love for the roam. Rich seems to have a love for the roam. He started to look online for places to buy in Brattleboro, which got me into it even more after they left.

Why have I gotten so into it?

Maybe because the housing here is very affordable especially compared to our last housing experience in Sacramento, CA.

2700 sq ft Home for $200K.

Maybe because not only can you buy a house you can get land. A yard, imagine that, a REAL yard!

1850 Sq ft home with 2.5 ACRES for $250K!

Maybe because I am getting this odd bug to invest in real estate?

Maybe because we have started to fall for little ‘ole Brattleboro.

And its cows, especially Bright and Lion!  My FAVS!

From Strolling of the Hieffers 2010

Maybe because Jim’s contract gig started to talk about permanent work?

Or maybe it is because I just want a place to call home, with our old bed, our eclectic tchotchkes, and our beloved cooking utensils!

Maybe it is a mix of all of the above.

Although a lot of places here are definitely affordable, I do not think buying a house is an investment. Note to self, seriously start looking at places that offer a turn key business with live-in options. Land seems like a dream, I mean a yard bigger than a postage stamp seems like a fantasy come true. But knowing me, I would start filling that land with a chicken here, a goat there, a homeless donkey there, and soon I would be overwhelmed in animal care at 6am in minus 5 degree 3 feet deep snow weather!  Especially after living in Honduras for a year!

Me and My Honduran Gnome friend:

From Semana Santa – Day Before Easter – 2009

Okay, in all honesty, I have fallen for Brattleboro, so that might be the biggest “Maybe” of them all. Who knew I was a small town rural type of gal, but what you do not know about Brattleboro it is one of the most art centric places we have ever been to. If you throw a feather, you will be sure to hit an artist of some sort here; writers, musicians, actors, circus acts, photographers, painters, jewelers, and so much more! This town also has good places to eat, to drink, to swim, to engage in intellectual and fun experiences, and, to just be. But hold on there cowgirl, no Brattleboro without a job here first! And the talk of a permanent gig for Jim was just that, talk.   It has been warned over and over again, do not move here without an income and this advice we will heed!

So, with a like of this town and what is becoming a stronger and stronger need to have a home again. Here we are, at a Roamin’ Gnome crossroads.

Oh to set things straight, we are not seriously talking about buying a home. Okay, I am looking out of curiosity, but I am not going to let this fantasy of having a great life here in Brattleboro get in the way of the reality that maybe after the first snow storm, I will run screaming from this cold hell of a town! Another issue, getting to know New Englanders really well? Do we want to be stuck in a snow bound place with just each other? Lord no! We have not only heard it is hard to get through that shell New Englanders have to protect themselves, we have experienced it too. So, being of a smartish intelligence, we would rent first…uh …probably.

Even with these known warnings, I am wanting a place we can all home. And I want something that is not pre-furnished. And something for more than a month or two. I want our bed, I want that cool dresser thing I looked forever for and finally found with Heather on Valencia Street when she was visiting SF one year. I want our framed photos of family and friends all around us. And okay, and there is a part of me that wants to decorate too! I won’t even start to tell you about the cool shabby chic / antique things we can find for cheap here.  And the real shabby, not the made to look shabby shabby! My new antique milk bottles from Dawn Dairy (Yes a dairy that was named Dawn) will blend in nicely next to a milk bucket filled with my collection of decorative balls.

Anyway, fantasies aside, we are here for now, without our stuff, for we-do-not-even-know how long, in a not-our-style-furnished tiny rental. These Roamin’ Gnomes without a home are making the best of it. And mind you, we are not complaining, but sometimes the gnome gardens are greener next door.

NOW START MAKING PLANS TO COME VISIT US VERMONT GNOMES BEFORE WE HAVE TO ONCE AGAIN ROAM!

HOW WE WENT TO 2 STATES BY ACCIDENT!

•May 12, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Life in New England is known to be relaxing which does not make good fodder for exciting writing…so below is a story of how we unexpectedly added some excitement to our lives for a weekend.

From What Happens Here…
From What Happens Here…

CLICK ON PHOTOS FOR PHOTO ALBUMS!

First there was the First Friday Art Walk! Streets closing, music, art and juggling…what more could a country person ask for?

Juggling is exciting, right?

From First Friday in Brattleboro

What started out as a little 1.5 hour drive to a town in New Hampshire, ended up a 3 state road trip!

Although we literally live less than 5 minutes from the New Hampshire border, we had not yet done any drives or trips in New Hampshire. So we decided to head out to New Hampshire first thing in the morning on Saturday. We picked Manchester, NH as our destination. A town only 1.5 hours away, sounds like a nice easy trip, doesn’t it?

Well it was, but when we got there we did not want to stay for the night as Manchester seemed a bit devoid of personality for being a “big” city, the largest in northern New England.

The Most Exciting Thing We Found in Manchester…Fidel Castro!

From Saturday Drive to NH!

After lunch and talking we decided to drive to the coast of New Hampshire which was no more than 1 hour away. Still sounds like an easy trip for most people.

Are you on the edge of your seat yet?

We did make it to the coast easy enough. Hampton Beach had an overflow of hotels to choose from but Jim had to check out the next town south. Well, there was no next town south…but there was a next State South, Massachusetts. First state we went to by accident. Funny thing is, Jim kept on driving. He does that. I wonder if it is the “bigger better deal” thing some people are afflicted with. I hope not, he may trade me for a bigger better wife! Ha, after he reads this he may want to!

After some pleading Jim turned around and then the hunt for a hotel in Hampton Beach began. Another exciting HenderBalz activity. In Central America, I would sit with the packs while Jim did the search. Traveling in Central America was usually very hot, tiring and long. We have no excuse here for the hotel picking drama, but without too much of it, we ended up returning to the first place we checked out. Very typical of us.

Maybe it was the stress of working long hours, stress of the drive, stress of going to another State unexpectedly, or it was the stress of not have a bigger better wife, but Jim was spent and not feeling well. So in our fishbowl (floor to ceiling windows on both walls) hotel room across the street from the beach, Jim napped. While he slept, I watched the dark overcast weather change slowly to a beautiful cloud-free late afternoon (okay I watched TV too).

Our View!

From Sunday Drive in New Hampshire

When my now refreshed hubby got up we went for a walk, which ended in a drink, dinner and some skee ball!
How is that for a night out at the Beach???

Dawn’s idea of a fun Saturday Night!

From Saturday Drive to NH!

An early night to bed leads to an early rise and we were off and on the road by 10am. Hey, that is early for us kid-free couples! We decided to press our luck and drive up the coast and look for a place to eat. Apparently, no one on the New Hampshire coast eats before 12:00noon on a Sunday! Enjoying the wonderful New England coastline views, we put the worry of hunger and non-caffeine moodiness aside.

The New England Coast

From Sunday Drive in New Hampshire

We searched and searched for something to eat and finally found a little cafe with not only coffee, but with breakfast sandwiches as well. God Bless them! Little did we know we were less than the 15 minutes from Portsmouth which had a plethora of brunch places to chose from!

Portsmouth, to me, was the best of New Hampshire! The streets were filled with old buildings, quaint cute stores, places to eat and drink, and views of the water. We did not want to leave.

Even the ground is Photo-worthy!

From Sunday Drive in New Hampshire

We love old buildings!

From Sunday Drive in New Hampshire

But lo and behold we did have to start making our way back to Vermont. As usual in New England, there will be plenty of cute towns and antique stores that will distract our attention and make us stop along the way home. But, on our way out of town we had already been distracted and somehow we ended up in Maine! The second state we went to by accident.

We basically went in circles from the shoreline to barely-inland for a time trying to figure out how to get back to New Hampshire. The circling was starting to get on the driver’s nerves (me). But in defense of the navigator (Jim), it was agreed by both that neither New Hampshire nor Maine marks their roads/highways very well!

We finally got on track in the general direction of “home” which brought us for an unexpected drive through Dover, NH. We thought about stopping because friends live there, but by this point in time and worry of getting lost again, we needed to keep going.

See, we really were in Dover!

From Sunday Drive in New Hampshire

After Dover and for what seemed like a forever drive, we made it to Concord, the capitol of New Hampshire. It was late, but we needed to stop to eat something before I got to the point of biting Jim’s head off of either hunger or crabbiness.

After Concord, we made it home without any more extra States, getting lost, and happily, no more excitement!

AN UNEXPECTED AND FAST CROSS COUNTRY ADVENTURE

•April 29, 2010 • Leave a Comment

The following is a true story. No names nor faces have been changed to protect the innocent. There aren’t any innocent!

It came upon us one quiet Thursday afternoon while we were at my brother’s place in Sacramento. We had just made some plans for the weekend and agreed to babysit for our nephew and nieces…when… dundadadun…the call came.

Jim went outside with the phone in hand as if in secrecy. I ignored him. Then after sometime, he came back and said, “I got a job!” Now the prankster part of me did not believe him.

“Not a funny joke,” I said. But he looked serious and told me a bit more about the temporary position in Vermont. A strike of excitement shot through my body, more adventure! Adventure? I was excited about more adventure? I thought all I wanted is a place of our own to live? The couch surfing was getting a bit much.

As I got excited about even having a place to live for 3 months or more, Jim calmed me down and said, “It is not completely set yet. All I got was a verbal offer; I am waiting for a written one.” After being disappointed in the past, we did not get our hopes up too much anymore. But this one was different, Jim was being…um…let me phrase it this way…superstitious (although he would never admit it). I was not allowed to say anything to anyone. People that know me, know that is asking a lot of me, but I did it! And I felt like a spy doing so; holding information from the enemy (my friends and family)!

There is another twist to this job offer, if all worked out well, Jim had to start work the following Wednesday. Mind you, it was now Thursday evening, the job is in a small town in Vermont, we were in Sacramento California, and our car was in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Trying not to jinx the offer, we made plans on how we could work this out.

Friday morning we still did not have a written offer. Can you stay the word, “Stress?” Although we were not exactly sure if we were really leaving yet, we said good-byes to Randy, Dawn, Olivia, Isabella and Carl. I was not ready to say, “Good-bye.” While I cried and packed up and cleaned, Jim was working on a 15 page application and security check form.

From Hanging with the Kids Time in Sacramento!

Still no written offer though. I think it was not until around noon Pacific time (3:00pm East Coast time) did Jim get the offer. Then the real stress began, getting there.

Since we still had Jim’s Dad’s car, we had to bring the car back to their house in Martinez. We took off for Jim’s parent’s house, still without any set plans to get to Vermont. Our well thought out plan was that we would fly to Virginia Beach over night on Friday, spend Saturday night with our kind and generous friends, The Glasiers (they have housed a lot of our stuff, our car, and us at times). Sunday we would drive the 7.5 hours to Brooklyn to spend the night with The Rogans and as soon as I asked Patty, she planned a BBQ with The North’s as well. Monday we would drive the 3.5 without traffic to Brattleboro, VT.

Sounds not too bad, right? Well, the search for an overnight flight did not start until 3:00pm. Note to any other people that have not ever been a last minute flyer, expect to pay a lot and be disappointed. Our plan that sounded sound, was not. After 3 and a half hours and an overwhelmingly amount of stress which included unsuccessful tries of using Jim’s Mom’s miles and Diana’s vouchers, we finally got a flight to the East Coast. But not to Virginia Beach. We were flying into Washington, DC which is 4 hours north of Virginia Beach. Okay, I made that all sound NOT as stressful as it really was for me. I was about to chop Jim’s lips off and stuff them where the sun don’t shine! But we got through it with no lip mishaps.

Our overnight flight to Washington DC from the Oakland Airport was with around 100 middle school kids on spring break to visit the capitol. Thinking is was going to be the worse non-sleep overnight flight ever, we took some sleeping aids Jim’s Mom gave us! Whether the kids made a lot of noise or not, we had no idea and slept like babies the whole flight!

After that, our plan went kind of smoothly. The rental car pick up went smooth. The drive from DC to Virginia Beach went smooth. Our time in Virginia Beach went smooth. We rested, repacked, dined on some of the best Filet Mignon’s we have ever had thanks to David, Chef of Chez Glasier, and ended the evening watching a video.

The drive to Brooklyn started off smoothly, after all we had done the trip a couple of times already. That was until we had a little snafu. It is one of those where one person does one thing and the other does the another thing, and all things get gumbled up. Kind of a like a good ole’ episode of “I Love Lucy!” And in this situation, Ricky Ricardo was Jim. All I remember is hearing Jim saying, “Dawn!” It kind of sounded like Ricky saying, “Lucy!” after she had done something wrong. Okay it was me! It was all my fault! I locked the key in the car. Yes, I did it, but I did not realize the keys were still in the ignition. Why would Ricky, uh, I mean, Jim leave them there? Because he thought I was not getting out of the car, that is why! Great, we were on schedule to get to The Rogan’s for the BBQ, but not anymore! To make things worse, we no longer had AAA.

Clever Jim called the road service, and then quickly renewed his AAA service before they got to us. He paid the $89.00 for the year membership which covered the $80.00 it would have cost us to have the Jersey guy break into our car. We were back to smooth sailing! But first we must thank the super-dooper-over-the-top nice guy at the gas station that let us borrow his phone for around half hour. Funny thing is, he kept on apologizing to us because he had his wife’s car and not his truck with the jimmy in it. All said and done, this little snafu only set us back a half hour!

The BBQ went great and it was so nice seeing Patty, Rich, Cooper, Nicole, Chad and Aidan again! The food was great, the kids were fun and Patty’s sangria was dangerous!

From BBQ in Brooklyn

After dinner, to our happy surprise Rich and Patty had a new Craps felt, so we gambled! Jim, the Dealer, taught a few new things to Patty and Rich, but semi-professional Craps Player Dawn won the pot!

From BBQ in Brooklyn

We did not get an early start the next morning, but that was okay because it was supposed to be only a 3.5 hour drive. When we finally did get on the road, the Manhattan, Hartford, and Springfield traffic jams made the trip over 5 hours. We got into Brattleboro in the evening. And we checked into a cheap hotel and settled into our new home!

Sacramento, CA to Brattleboro, VT in 3 days! We did it!

This area was first claimed by France, hence the French name.

*No other state has a largest city as small as Burlington, or a capital city as small as Montpelier.

Weather: Winter: 4-25 F & 8 Months Long / Summer: 60-81 F &
The weather is comparable to Minsk, Stockholm, and Fargo, ND. And Spring is called “Mud Season” (we are in Spring right now).

This Was One of the Good Mud Season Days!

Economy: Let’s just say, “Bad!”
In 2008, an economist said that the state had “a really stagnant economy, which is what we are forecasting for Vermont for the next 30 years.”

BUT THEY HAVE SOME NICE AND UNUSUAL FLOWERS!

But then there is Maple Syrup…Vermont is the leading producer…start buying it people!

Okay you get the picture, right?

One more thing…it takes less than an hour to drive across the southern part of the state.

Wait! I have not talked about the town where we reside! Brattleboro, Vermont!

Brattlesboro Bridge to New Hampshire

From Vermont in April!

And here are it’s Wiki-Facts:

Population: 11,491
(A tad bit smaller than Auburn, CA. Hey, I used an unknown town on the East Coast above.)

Uh…and that is about it folks! No, let me see there is some interesting stuff I have learned!

Strolling of the Heifers: Where they actually parade cows down the street (June 4-6 if you are interested).

Public Nudity: was not forbidden by any Vermont statute or Brattleboro ordinance, but on July 17, 2007 town officials passed an emergency rule by a 3–2 margin, temporarily “banning nudity on the main roads and within 250 feet of any school or place of worship, among other places” due to a number of complaints because nudist came to town to take advantage of the situation. (Note: Our place is not within that jurisdiction, anyone wanting to be nude there needs to send photos first please…for our approval).

Vermont Yankee: Brattleboro is within the 10 mile emergency radius of this 38 year old Nuclear Plant. Nuclear power is a cleaner power source than coal (so says my husband and many others).

Rudyard Kipling:
The very much loved author in the late 1980’s lived and built his dream home in Brattleboro Vermont.

Ely Culbertson: We are actually living in the house that this very significant American Contract bridge (card game) personality built. He was also an author (his ghost hangs out encouraging me to write).

Fair Trade: Brattleboro is the second Fair trade certified town in the nation, joining Media, Pennsylvania.

And I just learned this…just what I need:

Brattleboro Retreat: The renowned psychiatric hospital and convalescent center.

One last thing about Brattleboro: You can drive in 4 states in one day if you want (VT, NY, MA & NH).

Actually, we have only been here a couple of weeks and it seems like a great place. Very NoCal / Oregony if you ask me, granola and artsy! This is the land of pesticide-free-grass-fed cow meat, home-made goat cheese. and awesome farmer markets! Oh and let me know forget…old and new hippies.

CALIFORNIA – EXTENDED STAY

CALIFORNIA’S WONDERFUL SPRING FLOWERS!

From CA Flowers

California’s wonderful spring weather convinced us to stay longer. Okay…there were other reasons as well. First, since Jim did not get the LA Landfill gig, which in the long run he decided he did not want due to the above average amount of LA driving he would have to do for it, we had no where else to go! And second, we also decided to try to out-stay our couch sleeping welcome on the West Coast as we did on the East Coast.

After SF, we went back to Jim’s parents in Martinez for a couple of nights, then we took off to our favorite NO-CAL area, the Sierra Foothill Wine Country! After 3 lovely days there we went back to Sacramento to spend the Easter holiday with Dawn’s brother and his clan.

Once again I will leave our photo albums (and the comments under almost each photo) to speak for themselves! **NOTE** If you want to see the whole album click the “From” area under each photo!
